04. Effective Recognition Programs

 Motivating by Celebrating Success

Recognizing employees remains one of the best methods to ensure they feel valued and appreciated. Recognition at ABC Resort isn't something that happens once in a while — it is a part of the culture. Through a culture of consistent gratitude, ABC Resort creates an opportunity for employees to recognize each other with appreciation ranging from significant career milestones to simple acts of support. This dedication to acknowledging the achievements of employees improves morale, creates strong teamwork and ultimately strengthens the idea that all work done by every member of a team is appreciated.

ABC Resort uses Recognition as an exciting tool to motivate the employees up to the fullest and in a meaningful way. Whether they are daily acts of gratitude or big annual celebrations, these initiatives not only shine a light on high performance but also create an environment in which everyone knows their worth and strives to do what it takes.

Inspiration of Herzberg’s Motivators

Put simply, Herzberg designed the Two Factor Theory where recognition is considered a strong motivator which results in job satisfaction. According to Herzberg, basic needs (called hygiene factors) can only keep you from being unhappy — but motivators like recognition stimulate employees to put their hearts into their work. One of the primary factors in this is appreciation — when employees feel appreciated, it becomes a strong cycle they feel valued and this boosts their morale and encourages them to continue contributing towards the organization's success. ABC Resort’s reward programs are in accordance with Herzberg's motivators, creating a cultured workplace environment.

Recognition Programs Within ABC Resort

ABC Resort recognizes employee's dedication and loyalty through a variety of recognition initiatives. Here are some key programs:

Employee of the Month: ABC Resort honors a team member each month who has demonstrated commitment to service, and exceptional performance or created a guest experience that will be memorable. A representation of ongoing excellence that others can aspire to, the Employee of the Month is recognized in front of the whole team. The award recognizes not only individual staff achievements but also the consistent quality of guest interactions.

Service Excellence Awards: ABC Resort recognizes the individual employees that guests mention by name in guest reviews or satisfaction surveys with the Service Excellence Award. These awards recognize those team members – who go above and beyond to create a memorable experience for guests, leaving an impression that was hard to miss on TripAdvisor, internal guest surveys or other feedback platforms related to online booking engines as well as global tour operators. ABC Resort motivates all its employees to go the extra mile for guests by recognizing individuals who create lasting memories.

Employee of the Year of the Year: ABC Resort conducts a special ceremony at the end of every year to appreciate an employee from all monthly award winners for that financial year. The award recognizes an employee who has maintained above-average performance and demonstrated the resort’s values throughout the calendar year. Again, receiving Employee of the Year is an extreme compliment and an indication of someone going beyond service with hard work and dedication.

Long Service Awards: ABC Resort strongly believes in loyalty and dedication as well. The Long Service Awards celebrate long-serving employees. This award is to commend long-time employee contribution and raising ground in play a part towards resort victory. The program is designed to honour both a half-century of longevity while also showcasing the resort's gratitude for the time employees have spent making ABC Resort a must-visit property.

End of the Year Employees Party and Awards: Every year, ABC Resort holds a staff party to celebrate the good performances of all staff. The gathering is thoughtful in how it celebrates its employees, with a range of awards to hand out (including Employee Training Awards for those who have taken the time to get more professional training). Which includes raffle draws, fun activities & entrainments as well! An environment favourable for companionship and team spirit! The staff party serves as an opportunity for the resort to celebrate its employees in an inclusive atmosphere.

Global Perspective: A Diverse Approach to Recognition

ABC Resort acknowledges that different people view recognition in their very own unique manner. How an employee perceives recognition varies depending on things like cultural background, personal preference, and stage of career. Public recognition is natural to a certain extent, but in other cultures, it might feel uncomfortable or even unnecessary. To this end, ABC Resort has a recognition approach that is flexible, and inclusive and respects these different needs.

Sure, some employees truly enjoy the recognition they receive via monthly and annual awards like Employee of the Month or Employee of the Year while others may derive greater value from peer recognition such as when Service Excellence Awards are given to those indicated by guests in reviews and satisfaction surveys. Long Service Awards formally present Years of Service awards to those long-serving individuals who have made a significant contribution to the legacy of this resort.

ABC Resort has recognition programs to serve all people — those who enjoy public praise, and those who treasure private praise. This helps to make sure every employee feels valued in a manner that is consistent with their culture, career aspirations and individual preferences — creating a positive inclusive workplace where all contributions are recognized!

  1. Jayanath, I really appreciate the flexibility in how recognition is given at ABC Resort. It’s thoughtful that they consider different preferences for public or private acknowledgment, making the program feel inclusive and respectful of everyone’s unique needs. This approach not only honours cultural and personal differences but also strengthens a sense of belonging across the team. It would be interesting to see ABC Resort take this a step further by offering even more personalized recognition options. Maybe employees could choose their preferred type of reward, or they could introduce peer-nominated recognition circles for team driven appreciation. Adding these kinds of options could make recognition feel even more meaningful and tailored to each individual.
